La sottile linea rossa che lega l'Aranycsapat, la Nazionale ungherese di Pusks e Hidegkuti, con la Rivoluzione del 1956, repressa dall'Unione Sovietica con i carri armati. L'Aranycsapat, la squadra d'oro, come la Honvd, l'ambasciatrice dell'Ungheria nel mondo, macina gol e spettacolo e viene acclamata ovunque. E regala bellezza e gioia agli ungheresi, oppressi da un regime grigio e sanguinario, gli dà la speranza di un futuro diverso. Il giovanissimo Gbor, fanatico di Pusks, vive i trionfi alle Olimpiadi e contro l'Inghilterra come il segno che il comunismo, di cui un convinto seguace, sia destinato a vincere. Ma la sconfitta nella finale della Rimet del 1954 manda in frantumi i suoi sogni e quelli di un Paese. La delusione serve a farlo riflettere e mettere in dubbio tutto quello in cui credeva. E quando, il 23 ottobre 1956, scoppia la sommossa contro la dittatura comunista, il sedicenne Gbor perde ogni punto di riferimento: approva la rivolta, ma si sente sempre socialista. Fino a quando i carri armati sovietici invadono Budapest e soffocano nel sangue la rivoluzione.

The thin red line which binds Aranycsapat, Hungarian National team of Pusks and Hidegkuti, on the Revolution of 1956, repressed by Soviet Union with tanks. The Aranycsapat, the golden team, like Honvd is the ambassador of Hungary in the world, eats up goals, attracts attention and is cheered everywhere. It presents Hungarians oppressed by a grey and bloody regime with beauty and joy, it gives them the hope of different future. The youngest Gbor, a fanatic of Pusks, lives the triumphs of Olympics and against England team as the sign that Communism, which is a fervent follower of, is bound to win. But the defeat in the finals of 1954 Rimet Cup shatters his dreams and those of a country. The disappointment makes him think and question all that he has believed in. and when, the 23th of October 1956, the insurrection against Communist dictatorship breaks, the sixteen-year-old Gbor loses every point of reference: he approves the revolt, but feels himself always Socialist. Until Soviet tanks invade Budapest and suppress the revolution into blood.
