Lo scudetto del 14 maggio 2000, lo scudetto catartico della squadra biancazzurra, tutto merito del presidente Cragnotti? L'uomo che, come assicurava Raul Gardini, venderebbe frigoriferi agli esquimesi?
Cragnotti ha organizzato su basi moderne una squadra di vinti e di sfigati, spesso melodrammatica. Pareva il megalomane di turno, mezzo folle e mezzo visionario, quando prometteva risultati durevoli. E invece ha centrato quell'impresa titanica che nella capitale era riuscita solo al predecessore Umberto Lenzini e ai romanisti Bazzini e Viola. Tra accuse, veleni e sbagli arbitrali, l'ex Lazietta ha indebolito (fino ad abbatterlo) il monopolio calcistico ed economico delle grandi squadre del Nord. Oggi (sulla base dei punteggi 1999-2000) le classifiche Uefa proclamano la Lazio regina europea e l'autorevole Time precisa che l'azienda di Formello tra i dieci club più ricchi del mondo del calcio.

What about the shield won on 14th May 2000, the cathartic shield of the blue-white team? Is it fair the President Cragnotti takes all the credit for it? In fact, he is the kind of man that would sell fridges to Eskimoes, as Gardini used to say.
Cragnotti has given a modern organisation to a team of losers and poor bastards, which were often melodramatic too. When he promised good results, he was seen as a megalomaniac, who was partly fool and partly visionary. Instead he succeeded in that titanic deed, doing what only Umberto Lenzini, one of his predecessors, and Bazzini and Viola from the Rome team were able to do in the capital.
Although among charges, venomous words and referees' mistakes, the former Lazietta (as the team was called to show it was not important at all) was able to weaken and finally knock down the football and economic monopoly the big teams of the North were exercising for years. Nowadays according to the UEFA scores 1999-2000 the Lazio team is proclaimed European queen and the Time states precisely the firm of Formello is among the ten richest football clubs in the world.
